Born on 16 May 1977 in Tokyo, Asami Imai (今井麻美) is a renowned Japanese voice actress and singer, known for her versatile vocal range and peerless performances in a wide variety of anime, video games, and music. Growing up in what is now known as Shūnan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, she began her career while she was still studying, and in 1998 won the Grand Prize for the Voice Actress category at the ENIX Anime Awards (エニックスアニメ大賞) and two years later landed the role of Nao Kozuki in the Japanese anime series Platinumhugen Ordian. Her breakthrough came in 2011 when she gained widespread recognition for her work in anime The Idolmaster, marking a pivotal moment in her career that led to numerous other anime roles, including appearances in Sunday Without God (2013), Momo Kyun Sword (2014), and Afterlost (2019). Elsewhere, she has also forged a successful career as a recording artist, beginning with the "Day by Day / Shining Blue Rain" single in 2009 and taking in other solo releases such as "Hasta La Vista" (2012), "Asayake no Starmine" (2015), and "Believe in Sky," which was used as the opening theme to the 2019 anime series Pastel Memories. In 2022, she contributed vocals to the videogame Artery Gear and two years later released new J-pop album Uneriba.
