Chrystia "Tia" Cabral, known professionally as Spellling, was born on May 18, 1991, in Sacramento, California. Raised in the Catholic Church, she later drew from these influences in her music. Initially working as an elementary school teacher, Cabral's musical journey began in 2015 after witnessing looped vocal performances and the loss of a close friend. This led to the creation of Crayola Church, a handmade CD project inspired by crayons. Cabral released her debut album, Pantheon of Me, independently in 2017. In 2018, she signed with Sacred Bones Records and released her second studio album, Mazy Fly, the following year. The album received acclaim for its dark, mysterious sound. Her third album, The Turning Wheel, was published in 2021. Spellling's fourth album, SPELLLING & the Mystery School, was released in 2023.
