Placebo Effect is a German dark electro group formed in 1989. The band was founded by Axel Machens, Christoph Kunze, and Achim Windel. Their debut album, Galleries of Pain (1992), was followed by the EP Slashed Open (1993). Their recordings include the album Manipulated Mind Control (1994) and the compilation MCMLXXXIX-MCMXCV Past...Present (1996). After a period of inactivity starting in 1995, the group resumed activity in 2014. Windel passed away in 2016. Machens and Kunze released the album Shattered Souls (2020).
