Daan Hofman is a songwriter and composer based in Amsterdam, working across songs, film and theatre.
Originally trained as an actor, Daan became fascinated by the way music could shape a story at theatre school. Songwriting and performing gradually took centre stage, and for years he travelled the Netherlands with his band, performing in theatres, cafés, clubs and at poetry festivals.
He released two critically acclaimed albums, ‘Fakkels van Suiker’ (2008) and ‘Frederic & de Katoenvelden’ (2013), blending chanson, indie folk and Dutch lyrics. He opened for André Manuel, Alex Roeka, Raymond van het Groenewoud and Ramses Shaffy, appeared on De Beste Singer-Songwriter van Nederland and won the Prix du Public at the Concours de la Chanson.
Over time, Daan’s curiosity led him deeper into composition, recording and production. He built his own studio and developed his studio project Phonettes, while also beginning to compose for film, documentaries, podcasts and theatre. His work has been recognised with the Buma Music in Motion Best New Talent Award and an award at the CAIFF Scoring Competition in California.
Today, his work moves freely between songs and scores. His current project, ‘Mijn Zee’, is a cycle of Dutch indie pop songs created with author Marco Kunst.
