Ezio Domenico Flagello, also known as Ezio Flagello, born January 28, 1931, in New York City, was an Italian American opera singer known for his rich bass voice. He studied at the Manhattan School of Music and made his professional debut in 1955 as Dulcamara in L'elisir d'amore at the Empire State Festival. Flagello's breakthrough came with his Metropolitan Opera debut on November 9, 1957, as the Jailer in Tosca. He excelled in both comic and dramatic roles, including Rodolfo in La sonnambula and Philippe II in Don Carlos. Flagello created the role of Enobarbus in Samuel Barber's opera Antony and Cleopatra for the opening of the new Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center on September 16, 1966. He left an extensive discography, including recordings of Così fan tutte, Lucrezia Borgia, and Rigoletto. Flagello retired from the stage in 1987 and died March 19, 2009, at his home in Palm Bay, Florida.
