Sai Galaxy is an electronic collective fusing the sounds of synth music and disco flavours. Spearheaded by producer and keys player, Simon D, the band draws inspiration from 70’s disco, Afro disco and West African funk.
The band utilises analogue production techniques with live recordings, and no bland over-used computer sequencing. Members include the former trumpet player from Seun Kuti’s Egypt 80, Olugbade Okunade (Nigeria) as well as guest vocalists Gabriel Otu (Ghana), Ray Ledon (Papua New Guinea), and Vanessa Baker (Australia).
Durrington is the co-founder of live acts Digital Afrika (Awesome Soundwave), The Bird & political band Sorong Samarai from Papua New Guinea. Playing analogue synthesizers, an AKAI sampler & Polynesian drums, Sai Galaxy draws on his experience as a live musician to create dynamic synth music.
More recently Sai Galaxy co-founded Afro-House live act Digital Afrika with Zhonu Moon which is currently signed to Carl Cox’s Awesome Soundwave record label.
