Ultimate Crumpets were formed in 2019, in the very moshpit of a Tropical Fuckstorm gig at the legendary Vera club in Groningen, the Netherlands. Realising they had musical common ground, local musicians Rutger Peereboom (guitar/vocals), Wim Kruizinga (drums), Kalle Wolters (guitar) and Jorrit Berends (bass/keys) wasted no time teaming up to bring some extra noise and soul to the absolutely vibrant Groningen underground scene. Those in the know may recognise faces from past and present Groningen bands such as Guard Llama, Schau Schau and Bonne Aparte, respectively.
Drawing inspiration from nineties-classics like Guided by Voices, Pavement, The Lemonheads, Built to Spill and dEUS, Ultimate Crumpets brews up a new kind of stew in which the listener may also find a hint of The Replacements, Screaming Trees or, unsurprisingly, The Drones. Ultimate Crumpets combines melancholic songwriting with noisy guitars, unorthodox song structures, intense dynamics and heartfelt lyrics.
The band came full circle when they played one of their first shows as the support act for Tropical Fuckstorm when the latter returned to Vera in September 2022. Eager to start carving out a spot for themselves on the world wide web the band recorded their first singles in late 2023. Currently the band is working on new recordings, a debut album and playing shows throughout the Netherlands … and beyond.
