Belladonna, a rock-noir band formed in Rome in 2005 by vocalist Luana Caraffa and guitarist Dani Macchi, emerged from the ashes of an earlier group, Zoo di Venere, and quickly gained traction on MySpace, where it became the country's most-listened independent act by 2006. The group self-produced its debut album Metaphysical Attraction in 2006, a record exploring themes of death, mystery and reincarnation that entered the 2008 Grammy Awards voting. In 2007 Belladonna collaborated with producer Sylvia Massy to record The Noir Album, released in 2009; the record was promoted with a tour that included appearances at SXSW and a London show at The Fly. The following year, the band released the single "Let There Be Light" in collaboration with composer Michael Nyman, and in 2011 they issued And There Was Light, which topped the CD Baby rock chart. The mid-2010s saw further releases: the single "Undress Your Soul" (2015) and the album The Orchestral Album (2016), the latter featuring orchestral arrangements by Angelina Yershova. Belladonna continued to contribute to film and television soundtracks, with tracks appearing in trailers for Minions, Split, Black Panther, and the Netflix series Godless. In 2019 they released the sixth album No Star Is Ever Too Far, and in 2021 they pioneered a one-of-a-kind NFT release of the single "New Future Travelogue".
