Moira is recognized as a must-see live sensation, blending multicultural, multilinguistic, and genre-breaking musical influences that defy definition.
Based in Groningen (Netherlands), Moira rose from the ashes of a previous project that generated a tight bond between frontman Matteo Formis, and bassist Tijn Dekker in late 2023. To complete and embrace a trademark groove section, ascending from Istanbul’s underground rock scene, Efe Yılmaz was chosen to complete the current formation.
After having devoted the early stages to finding a unique blend between tastes, genres, and tonal possibilities, the band made its official debut in March 2024, playing a part in a sold-out event at one of the major student theaters in Groningen. A second, successful participation at the same venue one week after marked another sold-out performance, projecting Moira high in the lively musical community of the biggest city in the northern Netherlands.
Later in spring, Moira headlined an independent live music event organized by Amnesty International at Cafè de Zolder, as well as another at the Simplon Poppodium, a landmark of the Dutch alternative realm.
In the summer of 2024, the band undertook its first studio time together to free-standingly record a four-song debut EP, released on January 10th, 2025.
