Pistol Grip, a street punk band from Walnut, California, formed in 1997. The group's music blended British and Californian punk sounds with anti-religious and quasi-political lyrics. Their early popularity grew through performances alongside notable acts such as The Adicts, Agnostic Front, and Youth Brigade. In 2000, Pistol Grip released their first work, a split album with Fully Loaded titled Urgent Brings You Sounds of the Street Vol. 1. This release caught the attention of BYO Records, leading to a signing in 2001. Their first studio album, The Shots From The Kalico Rose, was released in 2001, drawing inspiration from 1970s bands like The Clash and Stiff Little Fingers. This was followed by Another Round in 2003 and Tear It All Down in 2004. Additionally, they filmed a live DVD titled Live at the Glass House in 2003.
