Gunhild Carling, born on May 7, 1975, in Gothenburg, Sweden, is a Swedish jazz musician and multi-instrumentalist, best known for her trumpet playing. She began performing at age seven with her family band, The Carling Family, which specialized in New Orleans–style jazz, and recorded her first album with them in 1984. In the early 2000s, she founded her own Gunhild Carling Swing Band, touring Europe and internationally and performing at numerous jazz festivals. She has released several albums, including Magic Swing (2010), Red Hot Jam (2010), Jul Därhemma (2011), Swing Out! (2013), That’s My Desire (2014), Harlem Joy (2015), and Big Apple (2015). Carling gained recognition through Swedish television appearances and performances at royal events, including celebrations for King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. She is celebrated for her cabaret-style stage presence, ability to play multiple instruments simultaneously, and repertoire rooted in Dixieland, Hot Jazz, and Swing of the 1920s and 1930s.
