Max Creek is an American rock band formed in Hartford, Connecticut in 1971 by Dave Reed and John Rider while students at Hartt College of Music. The duo began performing locally, blending folk, singer-songwriter, and country rock styles. In early 1972, Bob Gosselin joined as drummer, completing the original trio. Scott Murawski joined briefly on electric guitar in 1972 but left shortly after; he rejoined in 1973 and became lead guitarist. The band’s sound shifted toward improvisation and a psychedelic jam style after attending Summer Jam at Watkins Glen in 1973. Amy "Barefoot" Fazzano joined as lead vocalist in 1976, and Rob Fried joined as drummer/percussionist in 1979. Dave Reed left the band around 1974. Max Creek released their self-titled debut album, Max Creek, in 1977. They gained a reputation for extensive touring, performing more than 250 shows annually during their peak popularity in the late 1980s. Max Creek influenced several other jam bands, including Phish and Guster.
