Vastum, an American death metal band, was formed in 2009 in San Francisco. The group initially included Leila Abdul-Rauf on guitar and vocals, Daniel Butler on vocals, Kyle House on guitar, Luca Indrio on bass, and R.D. Davies on drums. Their debut album Carnal Law was released in 2011. The band's lineup evolved over the years, with notable changes including Chad Gailey replacing R.D. Davies on drums from 2013 to 2015 and again from 2018 onward, and Shelby Lermo joining as a guitarist in 2013. Vastum gained critical acclaim with their third studio album Hole Below, released in 2015, which was listed at number 19 on Pitchfork's The Best Metal Albums of 2015. Subsequent albums include Orificial Purge (2019) and Inward to Gethsemane (2023).
