Ellisa Meriam Bellina Maria Bamboe (born 10 April 1965), better known as Meriam Bellina, is an actress who has won three Piala Citra from FFI (Indonesia Film Festival) and acted in more than 50 films.
Born and raised in Bandung. Born to G.H. Bamboe and Maria Theresia, she is of mixed European and Sundanese descent. She initially wanted to become a stewardess for the airline Garuda Indonesia, but began acting, modelling, and singing while studying in Dago Catholic High School, Bandung. She made her feature film debut in “Perawan-Perawan” (1981) before rising to fame after starring as the titular character in Ami Priyono's 1982 film “Roro Mendut”, an adaptation of the traditional legend as told by Y. B. Mangunwijaya.
As of 2013 Meriam has won three Piala Citra from FFI (Indonesian Film Festival), two for Best Actress on “Cinta DiBalik Noda” (1984) and “Taksi” (1990) and one for Best Supporting Actress on “Get Married” (2007) – from a total of eight nominations. From “Kafir” (2002) She has also received Best Actress at the Bandung (2003) and Bali Film Festivals (2004).
Her music career begins in July 1983, when she released her debut album “Symphoni Rindu”, after that album, she released an album almost every year and almost every album that she released has success at sales in Indonesia, “Untuk Sebuah Nama” (1984), “Kerinduan” (1985), “Begitu Indah” (1986), “Mulanya Biasa Saja” (1988), “Aku Percaya” (1989), “Mungkin Aku Harus Berlalu” (1990) and her last album with JK Records “Asmara” (1993). From “Mulanya Biasa Saja” she won BASF Award 1989 as ones of the best selling album at 1988-1989. Those awards has been proved that Meriam Bellina is one of the biggest artist in Indonesia, and she was one of the star who has success in two fields at once, acting and music, a very rare achievement obtained by an artist in Indonesia.
