Ehret is the concoction of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brian Lang. Similar to the melancholic, choral-style vocals of artists like Sufjan Stevens, Active Child, Agnes Obel and Kings of Convenience, Ehret brings its own dense layered soundscape to the table. The latest release, Gleaner, is a winding sonic story showcasing Ehret’s narrative prowess.
Started by Lang circa 2007, on the heels of his first solo project titled Thought Language, and honed during his involvement with the band Millennium Children, Ehret eventually became Lang’s primary musical outlet allowing for unrestrained experimentation and growth.
Each album harbors its own consistent timbre and style, similar to a painting with a unified color palette. Lang's attempts at connecting the patchwork of songs and albums together through recurring lyrics, melodies and specific instruments is an important and purposeful approach.
Words Are Not chronicles the soft naivety of the idealistic dreamer. Fleeting and soft, the lyrics and music contain reinforced messages of growth, love and hope.
