NOT WONK was formed in 2010 in Tomakomai, Hokkaido, by vocalist and guitarist Shuhei Kato while still a high‑school sophomore, joined by bassist Takuma Motohashi and drummer Akimu. After a series of lineup changes, the trio settled and began performing locally. In 2013, a demo tape presented at the Tokyo punk festival MATSURI attracted the attention of the label SEVENTEEN AGAiN, sparking a surge in the band’s recognition. The following year the group appeared on the compilation Ikiume V.A. and released its first cassette, Fuck It Dog, Life Is Too Sugarless, through I HATE SMOKE TAPES. In 2015, Laughing Nerds And A WALLFLOWER became their debut studio album, followed by This Ordinary in 2016. After signing with Avex’s cutting‑edge division in 2019, they issued the third album Down The Valley later that year, and their fourth album dimen arrived in 2021. Subsequent singles include "slow burning" (2020‑12‑25), "dimensions" (2021‑01‑08), and "Grape" (2026‑05‑27), showcasing the band’s continued evolution within the Japanese rock scene.
