Ian Prowse, born 10 January 1964 in England, is an English singer‑songwriter who began his career with the 1989 formation of Pele, releasing Fireworks and The Sport of Kings under M&G Records/Polydor and touring the UK nine times before the group disbanded in 1996. In 1999 he founded Amsterdam, signing with Beat Crazy in 2004 and issuing The Journey (2005) and Arm in Arm (2008), the single "Does This Train Stop on Merseyside" reaching number 32 on the UK Singles Chart. Ian Prowse has collaborated with Elvis Costello and contributed to Christy Moore’s 2009 album Listen. In the following years, he moved further into solo work with Who Loves Ya Baby (2014), Compañeros (2016), Here I Lie (2019), the retrospective The Story of Ian Prowse (2020), and One Hand on the Starry Plough (2022). In 2026, he prepared No Names, his twelfth album of original songs, featuring collaborations with Elvis Costello, Steve Wickham, Damien Dempsey, and his daughter Rosalita, and announced a full-band UK tour around the project.
