Reis Against The Spülmachine was founded in Göttingen in 2013. The duo consists of Philipp Kasburg (vocals, guitar) and Oliver Sprenger (vocals, guitar, ukulele, percussion). The two musicians met in their hometown and initially performed at cabarets and festivals. The duo quickly became known for their mixture of music, satire and social criticism. Their name is a play on words with the US band Rage Against the Machine and reflects the humorous nature of their program. Reis Against The Spülmachine plays music comedy and singer-songwriter pop, often with a strong reference to pop culture, politics and everyday observations. The repertoire includes original compositions and creative mash-ups of well-known songs. In 2019, the debut album Die fitteste Band der Welt was released on the Hamburg label FKP Scorpio. This is followed by Radio Reis (2021), which finally establishes the duo as a force to be reckoned with in German-language music comedy. In 2024, the third album Tassen & Thermoskannen is released, which combines the typical Spülmachine humor with new musical influences. Well-known songs include "Kein Bock auf Nazis", "Mein Körper ist ein Tempel", "Unverpacktladen" and "Was würde Jesus tun?". The duo has received several awards in the German-speaking cabaret sector. In 2019 they won the NDR Comedy Contest, in 2020 the Stuttgart Broom (Silver Broom), in 2021 the Hamburg Comedy Cup (Audience Award) and in 2022 the Prix Pantheon (Jury Prize Frühreif & Verdorben). Another studio album, Tourlaub, is released in October 2025. This reaches number 97 in the German charts.
