Blyth Power, a British rock band formed in 1983 by singer and drummer Joseph Porter, released their debut album The Barman And Other Stories in 1988. The band's music combines punk rock and folk influences, with lyrics often focusing on mythology, history, and English culture. Notable albums include compilation Pont Au-Dessus De La Brue (1989) and Alnwick & Tyne (1990), featuring Jamie Hince of The Kills on lead guitar. Since 1993, Blyth Power has released albums under their own label, Downwarde Spiral Records. The band's annual mini-festival, the Blyth Power Ashes, combines live music with cricket matches. Joseph Porter has also been involved in side projects such as Red Wedding and Mad Dogs & Englishmen.
