Alfredo Catalani, born on June 19, 1854, in Lucca, Italy, was an Italian composer. He studied piano and composition under Fortunato Magi at the Institute of Music in Lucca and later moved to Paris to study at the conservatory with François Bazin and Antoine-François Marmontel. Catalani's early works included La Falce, premiered in Milan in 1875, and Elda, later revised as Loreley, which debuted in Turin in 1890. His most notable operas are Dejanice (1883) and La Wally (1892), the latter featuring the aria "Ebben? Ne andrò lontana" famously interpreted by Renata Tebaldi. He died on August 7, 1893.
