Overthrust, a death metal band from Ghanzi, Botswana, was formed in 2008 by Tshomarelo "Vulture Thrust" Mosaka, Shalton "Spencer Thrust" Monnawadikgang, and the late Gakeitse "Suicide Torment" Bothalentwa. The band recorded their first single album Freedom in the Dark in 2011 and released their debut full-length album, Desecrated Deeds to Decease, on May 26, 2015. Overthrust toured Europe in 2016, performing at Wacken Open Air and the International Sommerfestival in Hamburg. The band's second album, Suicide Torment, was released in 2019. Overthrust has performed at over 100 festivals since 2010 and won the Botswana President Day Competitions Live Music Category in May 2012, as well as being awarded Best Death Metal Band in Africa by African Metal Committee in 2015. The band also organizes an annual charity festival, Overthrust Winter Metal Mania Fest, supporting disadvantaged children in Ghanzi.
