I am a dreamer.
My parents showed me how to use the record player when I was really young. They would bring grocery boxes of records home from the flea markets, and I would play them all. Beethoven, Chopin, Grieg, Bigband Jazz, The Beatles, Indonesian Gamelan, The Shadows . . . I was awestruck.
I thought music was something you listened to, like a kind of magic. It was when I was about 6 that a little organ appeared in my bedroom. It was an Italian Farfisa electric organ that generated sound by blowing air through reeds, and sounded like a harmonium or accordian.
I remember the moment I played my first few notes . . . I was transfixed. It was in that moment that I realised that music was something that I could play myself. Most of all, I enjoyed improvising and composing my own melodies. Anything I could imagine, I was able to play. From that moment, I fell in love with playing the piano.I was like a wizard that could channel this mysterious magic. Looking back, I realise that music is in all of us and part of who we are.
The gift of music continues to bless me with opportunities and adventures, for which I am grateful. It is an honour to share my music with you. Thankyou for listening and I look forward to sharing more with you as I continue to dream.
