Ashwin Kumar Batish (अश्विन कुमार बातिश) is an Indian sitar and tabla player. He began playing the dholak at age seven and the sitar at twelve, receiving early training from his mother, Shanta Devi Batish, and later studying under his father, S. D. Batish, in England. In 1973, he moved to the United States, where he performed extensively with his father at their family restaurant and music club, Batish India House. Ashwin’s 1986 fusion album Sitar Power under Batish Records garnered significant airplay and led to a recording contract with Shanachie Records. He has collaborated with artists including Zakir Hussain, Violent Femmes, Derek Sherinian, and others, and released Sitar Power II in 1994.
