Reinier Baas is a Dutch jazz guitarist and composer born in 1985 in Hilversum, Netherlands. He studied at the Manhattan School of Music and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam where he completed a master's degree in 2010. That same year Baas founded The More Socially Relevant Jazz Music Ensemble. His recording history includes the albums More Socially Relevant Jazz Music (2011) and Mostly Improvised Instrumental Indie Music (2012), the latter of which won the Edison Jazz Nationaal award in 2013. He also released the album Smooth Jazz Apocalypse (2014) and recorded the album Smash Hits (2018) with Ben van Gelder and the Metropole Orkest. Baas has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival and has toured the United Kingdom, Belgium and South America. He has taught at the Conservatorium van Rotterdam and the Siena Jazz University.
