Carmine Rebellion is the musical project of Scottish songwriter Mara Flint. The project took shape in early 2020, during the lockdown which resulted from the Covid-19 pandemic. Although she was still working part-time during this period, Mara wanted to stay productive during her down-time. Time spent in her home studio resulted in a number of songs, some of which were released in her EP, "Manifesto", in June.
The songs have a modern metal sound, but also hark back to rock and metal of the 80s. Crushing guitar riffs sit alongside catchy vocal melodies in a way that is both familiar and unique. Ominous synths lend a dark atmosphere while pianos gently caress the ear.
Not one to stop there, Mara immediately started work on a follow-up. "Propaganda" took shape over a couple of months. This new collection opens with an epic instrumental, before launching into its heavy but catchy title track. Three more songs lead into another killer instrumental, then it's all over too soon.
It's dark and angry, but also hopeful. There's optimism, but at the same time, there's protest. And yes… a little rebellion.
