Efkan Sesen was born in Istanbul in 1963. He is the son of a Laz family from Artvin. He completed his education in Istanbul.
He spent six years of his youth as a prisoner of the fascist military junta. Throughout his lifetime, he has actively participated in fighting for human rights, democracy and freedom. His character, attitude, and spirit of resistance are reflected in his songs and albums. Producing anti-government, opposition songs and siding with the people.
Music career:
He was a founding member of Grup Yorum in 1987 and was their soloist for the following four years. In this period, he was arrested several times as a result of actions taken against restraints and prohibitions on art.
He started producing his own music after 1991 and released his own albums. He performed his music in many cities in Anatolia and was invited to many alternative festivals in Europe. He has released 14 albums, two of which consist of his famous whistle, a reliable friend from his prison days. A unique way to express music, these two whistling albums received attention from all over the world.
In 2012, he released an album called “Soluk Soluga 25 Yil” about his 25th year of musical life. On the album, many of his musician friends cover 14 of his songs as an example of unity. Until very recently, he released his albums under his own company called “Sesen Muzik Yapim”.
