ASHLEIGH ASHLEY is a songwriter from South East London who has always revelled in rhyme, wordplay and visual media. She gained radio play in 2011 with the heart-breaking ballad Shades of Blue, and has since appeared on both Channel 5’s Must Be The Music and a T-Mobile ad. Her fluid vocal style is laced with Soul, Funk, RnB, Dub and modern electro. Taking cues from the likes of Erykah Badu, Mary J Blige, and Janelle Monae, Ashleigh has created an eclectic identity for her music whilst staying true to her roots. Her unmistakable London twang combines ballad harmonics, urban rhythms and lyrical themes from social problems in her home-town to the universality of betrayal and love.
The freshly released CRIMINAL ANGEL EP is a 21st century update of classic Big Band sounds. Ashleigh plays an analogue of a Bond Girl role in the title track, and ventures through a variety of genres and textures over the following five original compositions. Euphoric instrumentals, plenty of hooks, intelligent melodies and an understanding of negative space make the record a gripping debut.
MUSIC and a career in production/entertainment are a priority, but Ash has experience directing and costume designing and has a keen interest in fashion - all disciplines that come together to enhance her sound, her performance and the media she creates. Moving image production is a big part of Ash’s artillery, with the RoofHop acoustic sessions showing a more laid-back side of her personality, and each of her music videos based on a strong, narrative concepts. These efforts are self-produced and speak of Ash’s work ethic, and restless sense of collaboration.
