PAPISA is Rita Oliva, a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in São Paulo, who was part of the bands Cabana Café and Parati before launching her solo work with the EP Papisa (PWR Records, 2016), the album "Fenda" (2019), and its twin "Remixes da Fenda" (2020). PAPISA's music fits the indie psych rock and dream pop labels but sounds new in both genres due to its lyrics in Portuguese and strong influence from Brazilian music.
Seeking inspiration in relationships and their dynamics, PAPISA exalts affection and talks about encounters and mismatches on their recently released second album, Amor Delírio. After playing the main stages in Brazil in recent years, the songwriter and instrumentalist has just returned from her North American tour at the beginning of 2024, which took in three festivals in different states, including SXSW in Austin-TX.
With single Dores no Varal highlighted by Seattle's KEXP radio as Song of the Day and included in the in-flight music on Latam aeroplanes in April 2024, the artist is a promising new female voice in alternative music in Brazil, delivering a work based on sensitivity, connection and deep emotional surrender.
