Originating in 2017, Derek Mac began the group with close friends and family to write, record, and perform music. The band recorded their self-titled album at their home studio in Baltimore County MD, drawing musical inspiration from bands such as Grizzly Bear, Polyenso, and The Flaming Lips. The group sought to merge elaborate and creative studio production with inventive songwriting, and began uploading songs under the name Pretty O.P.
The release of their debut album showcased the project's impressive range and versatility, and helped to establish Pretty O.P. as one of the most exciting new acts in the underground indie-pop/rock scene. With a growing fanbase and a string of successful shows under their belt, Pretty O.P. is poised for even greater success as they look to the future.
After the release of their initial project, The Mac brothers, Derek, Keenan, Mitchell, and Spencer, subsequently began planning and recording tracks for their upcoming sophomore albums Wash & Dry, this time drawing upon material created while growing up together over the span of the previous decade.
The group's sound is characterized by catchy hooks, intricate melodies, clever lyrics, and meticulously crafted production.
