Edwin Madu creates music under the name “Dwin, The Stoic”. He is a songwriter, performer, composer, poet and journalist based in Lagos, Nigeria. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Nigerian publication, Zikoko and he is also one-half of the indie band Ignis Brothers.
Dwin, The Stoic employs vivid storytelling in his music while exploring themes ranging from love to death to politics. He has written music for acts like Adekunle Gold, Ibejii, Jessica Bongos, Bigfootinyourface, and others. Influenced by musicians like Paul Simon, Jim Reeves, Labrinth and Asa, he creates music across several genres including afro pop, chamber pop, soft rock, alt-pop, folk, EDM, house, etc.
His first official single "Are You The One?" was released in February 2018 and was the lead single for his debut solo album "Heavy Heart" which was released in July of the same year. Several songs from the album like "Stay The Night" and "The Lonely" became soundtracks for the fifth season of the hit NdaniTV web series "Skinny Girl In Transit".
He released "Go With Me" - which now has over 250,000 Spotify plays - as a follow-up single in 2019. This was closely followed by the Ignis Brothers' single "Alien at Home".
In 2020, Ignis Brothers released their debut studio album "The Cost of Our Lives" which has been hailed as "one of the best Nigerian albums of 2020" by Pulse Nigeria with Dwin A&Ring, co-writing, co-producing and performing on the project.
Dwin released "Ifunanyam" in May 2021 to many positive reviews with a performance video powered by Afrovibes Studio and Jameson Whiskey.
In January 2022, Dwin, The Stoic opened the Lagos leg of Fireboy DML’s tour. He has also performed at Felabration, Ake Festival and for the Swedish Embassy in Nigeria.
His single "Streets" was released in February, 2022.
