Richard Andersson is a Copenhagen-based Danish bass player with Icelandic and Faroese roots. Known for his deep, resonant tone and highly personal approach to improvisation, he has collaborated with a wide range of musicians, including Jeff 'Tain' Watts, Carl Winther, and many others in various settings across the globe.
As a bandleader and composer, Andersson has released several critically acclaimed albums, both as a solo artist and with his various ensembles.
He has received multiple awards like Årets Fynske Jazzmusiker (Funen Jazz Musician of the year), nominations like Composer of the year at Danish Music Awards Jazz and grants including support from the Danish Arts Foundation and the Augustinus Foundation.
His education includes studies at Det Rytmiske Konservatorium (RMC) in Copenhagen, Manhattan School of Music (MSM), and Det Fynske Musikkonservatorium (SDMK).
In addition to his work as a performer, Andersson is an active educator, teaching at the Danish National Academy of Music (SDMK) and leading workshops internationally. His approach to music is deeply rooted in storytelling and interplay, often integrating elements from contemporary jazz, free improvisation, and Nordic folk traditions.
