Stephanie Benson (Stephanie Akua Benson) is a phenomenal
multi-talented musician, recording star and performer, whose
repertoire includes contemporary music and classical jazz genres, and
will soon encompass gospel with the release of her latest work entitled
My Prayer.
Stephanie is an accomplished pianist and guitarist and is
known for her silky voice, elegant looks, sense of provocative fashion
and flawless stage performances. While listening to her music tracks,
one can discern her keen sense of timing and appropriateness of lyrics
and instrumentation.
Ms. Benson has collaborated with, written for and supported acts for
such music industry notables as Stevie Wonder, Omar, Atomic Kitten,
Barry White and many more. She is dearly loved by the Royal Family in
the UK and has performed at
many of their functions.
Stephanie is Ghanaian born and attended school in London after the
death of her father. After years of success in the United Kingdom
(UK), with PWL records and European tours in the 1990s, and having
appeared on numerous West End shows, Ms. Benson, a devoted mother,
took a hiatus from the music scene to raise her five children. As a
matter of fact, one of her children has entered the music industry and
recently achieved a few top 3 hits in the UK with her group.
Ms. Benson is also a philanthropist. So concerned about the musical
arts scene being accessible to girls, she opened a girls only (16
years or older) music school in Accra, Ghana – the BEPI Institute (at
ManetCourt on the Spintex Road) in November 2014 to expand the pool of
female artists in the country. The school has a sound recording
studio, rehearsal room and a dance studio.
Stephanie also supports a cancer foundation called Pink for Africa
(the African Breast Cancer Foundation).
Tragedy struck last year when she was involved in a car accident on
the Spintex Road, Accra. The accident brought her near to death and
led to her writing My Prayer as a song of gratitude to God for sparing
her life.
Stephanie just recently finished hosting the second leg of the
Mercedes Benz African Fashion Festival in Accra to international
acclaim.
