Daughter of famous Turkish filmmaker Turgut Demirag and one of the first Turkish Jazz singers Ruchan Camay, Melike Demirag was born in Istanbul in 1956. In 1974, he shared the leading role with Yilmaz Guney in the much acclaimed movie “Friend”, directed by Guney. She also sang the song to the movie, that goes by the same name "Friend", whose lyrics and music belong to Sanar Yurdatapan. She got renowned with her songs "Merhaba" (1975), "Hadi Canim Sen De" (1975), "Aglamak Ayip Degil" (1976), "Ninni" (1976), "Pervane ile İsik" (1977). She married Sanar Yurdatapan. In 1978, she shared the lead role with Tarik Akan and Tuncel Kurtiz in the film “The Herd”, written by Yilmaz Guney. (For this role, she also received the Best Actress award in 2011, with the delayed distribution of the Golden Orange Festival awards that could not be held in 1980.) After the military coup on September 12, 1980, she went abroad and lived in Germany for 11 years. She made a comeback with the album "Istanbul’da Olmak: Anadolu” (Being in Istanbul: Anatolia), which she released with Sanar Yurdatapan while in Germany, and especially with the song "Being in Istanbul" from that album. She has two children named Zeynep (1979) and Can (1989). On December 24, 1991 she returned to Turkey. After divorcing Sanar Yurdatapan, she briefly was married to director Orhan Cetin. Taking part in a number of TV and theater productions since the 90's and continuing to give concerts, Melike Demirag released her latest album “Geri Donusum” (Which has a double meaning: Comeback & Recycling) in 2009. This album was for the first time released on digital music platforms in 2020.
