Paul Numi is an indie artist, inspired by the sounds of the 80’s.
“Chimera” is his 2020 comeback album. The album already got 170,000 streams. In the 80’s, his music would be labelled “new wave”. Indeed, influences by Joy Division, The Cure and David Bowie with a touch of Britpop are traceable in Paul Numi’s style. His lyrics are both accessible and poetic, with a deeply felt humanism.
The album was produced by Ronald Vanhuffel (a.o.Bløf), recorded at ICP in Brussels and Lunatic studios in Ghent, supported by the cream of Belgium’s studio musicians (a.o. Eric Melaerts, Vincent Pierins).
Following up on the success of the “Chimera” album, Paul released the first single of the forthcoming next album on May 1st (album release planned for late Fall 2021). The single is called "Multitiudes". It has a stimulating dance groove, ending in a delightful harmony of several basslines. The influence of 80’s sounds is present again, albeit in Numi’s unique blend. The lyrics celebrate polymathy and mavericks who dare to think for themselves:
Some history:
Paul played support to U2, Echo & The Bunnymen, TC Matic, … (with his band “Angry Voices”) in the early 80's. Then life took another twist and besides being an artist, Paul also took up a career as a business executive. Paul travelled the world for his work, often taking his guitar on the road and playing gigs.
Paul played unplugged concerts in New York, Boston, Moscow, Beirut, Warsaw and lots of other cities. He did radio interviews in places as diverse as Switzerland, Morocco and Saudi-Arabia. Over 100 USA radio stations (“triple A” and college radio) had him on their playlist. Even The Times of India ran a feature on Paul Numi’s music.
In 1999, he had a major media hit in Poland. Specifically, Paul gave a song to a charity called “Give Children the Sun”. The video featuring Polish artists was heavily plugged on national TV stations. The proceeds of the drive allowed to buy the hospital equipment to treat children with heavy burn wounds.
Some rock dreams die hard…Hence his 2020 come-back.
