2-piece Alt Rock from Philadelphia with Talking Heads vibes
Pep Rally is an Art Rock/Marching Band mash-up composed of 2 musicians who grew up in the South and came together in Philadelphia. Their sound is Cowboy-core for its country acoustic-inspired storytelling and big analog synths. Noted engineer/producer Tommy Joyner and percussion tuff girl Emily Roane take the synth and guitar to the corral on a warm sunny day to play songs about gritty topics like jail and drug abuse such as “Turn the Radio Up” and “South Street” while the bees buzz warmly around. You’ve never heard depression sound so happy.
Engineer/producer Tommy Joyner is part-owner of Grammy award-winning MilkBoy the Studio - Silk Sonic, Zach Bryan, Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Ray, Michael Jackson, Dave Matthews, James Taylor - and put in his 10,000 hours cutting 1000’s of records and demos for Philadelphia and regional acts. In addition to pottering around the studio making music, repairing gear, and assisting or engineering for clients’ award-winning records, Joyner has composed music for many nationwide advertising campaigns including Keurig, Black Box Wine, and NBC Sports. Recent Grammy nominated/winning albums recorded at MilkBoy include Zach Bryan “Self-Titled”, Lil Uzi Vert “Pink Tape”, and Jazmine Sullivan “Heaux Tales”.
After years of percussive composition and playing drums, most famously for Digable Planets, Tommy formed PEP RALLY, which makes grown-up pop-rock of the best kind: immediate yet thoughtful, muscular but approachable, intelligent and danceable.
