Cuban-born flutist Ernesto Fernandez is a versatile musician skilled in both classical and Latin genres with performances in Italy, Switzerland, Mexico, Grand Cayman, Nicaragua, Toronto, Cleveland, New York, Washington D.C., Las Vegas, Chicago, Charlotte, New Orleans, and Salt Lake City. He earned a degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Instrumental Performance with an emphasis in Music Business from the University of Miami. His doctoral dissertation provides a methodology for learning to play and improvise in the Cuban charanga style, examining the structural differences of the five-key flute and Boehm flute.
Ernesto Fernandez has collaborated in multiple GRAMMY-nominated and Latin GRAMMY-nominated projects and has performed with various world-renowned artists, including Albita, Oscar D’ Leon, Aymee Nuviola, Bobby McFerrin, Il Volo, Gloria Estefan, and others.
In the summer of 2017 Dr. Fernandez was the featured artist at the prestigious Galway Flute Festival in Weggis, Switzerland under the direction of flute legend Sir James Galway. Ernesto Fernandez is endorsed by Gemeinhardt Musical Instruments, Inc. He served as the Jazz Competitions Coordinator for the National Flute Association for five years and is a regular clinician and performer at state and national flute conventions.
Ernesto maintains a balanced musical career as a performing artist and educator. In 2019 Ernesto released his new album Pa'lante featuring world-renowned guest artists of the classical and Latin world. In 2020 Ernesto Fernandez will be the featured artist for the annual Florida Flute Convention in Orlando, FL.
