Scooter was a rock/funk/pop band formed in Antwerp, Belgium in 1979. The initial members were Piet Van Den Heuvel (vocals), Jan Fraeyman - RIP (guitar), Pit Verlinde (keys), Jo Duchateau (bass) and Herwig Duchateau - RIP (drums). After the passing of Jan Fraeyman, Bert DeCorte and finally Jan Verheyen joined the band as lead guitarist. Over the course of approximately 5 years, Scooter released 3 albums and several singles and maxi's on vinyl. Their single "You" was a major hit in Belgium and was awarded with the "Summer Radiohit of 1981" on national radio. Their first album "One By One" was completely self-recorded, engineered and mixed, mostly led by Herwig, who later became one of Belgium's leading producers and mixing engineers. Piet and Jan Verheyen went on to form Catalog Of Cool after Scooter disbanded. Piet wrote several hits later on for fellow Belgian artists, and is currently the only member still making music as the wingman of Bart Peeters. Scooter's music was quite unique in Belgium at the time, drawing inspiration from the "US West-coast" sound. Their live reputation was regarded as one of the best of the time. Scooter opened for Nile Rodger's Chic and for Robert Palmer during their 1981 tours in Europe. Herwig Duchateau passed away in 2018.
