Kiwi singer-songwriter Alannah Prins had all the makings of a great performer. With a background in acting, dancing, and modelling, it was only natural the triple-threat added yet another weapon to her arsenal - evolving a lifelong passion for music into her own unique brand of quirky electro-pop. PRINS was born.
A force to be reckoned with, the pop powerhouse is now taking the New Zealand music scene by storm. Having spent the past few years racking up performance experience, PRINS is now becoming a firm fixture on the festival circuit, securing coveted slots at Bay Dreams South and Electric Ave last summer.
Reminiscent of industry heavyweights Dua Lipa and Halsey, PRINS' polished synth-pop sound layers infectious electronica with a dose of sultry rhythm-and-blues, a touch of theatrical flair, and a hint of '80s disco nostalgia - producing radio-ready dancefloor anthems sure to shake the crowd.
With hundreds-of-thousands of streams to her name, the Auckland-born artist has already amassed a legion of loyal listeners with her high-energy performances and potent pop bangers. Despite the difficulties of 2020, PRINS still had a successful year, releasing her debut EP in July. The project's titular track, 'Magnetic', was co-written and produced by Nick Chrisp and Will Thomas - better known by their alias SACHI. She also collaborated with drum-and-bass duo Lee Mvtthews on 'Don't Say It', an EDM single with almost one million Spotify streams at the time of writing.
Last year also marked a pivotal step forward for PRINS in the live scene, performing at The Edge NYE Festival in Christchurch's Hagley Park to a record audience of 22,000. She then took the stage alongside international acts at Highlife's sold-out Sunsetters Festival in Smales Farm, and later played to another full house at the Ngaio Marsh Theatre. 2020 also saw PRINS join the likes of local hitmakers Church & AP, SACHI, and Wax Mustang on the main stage at the Garden Party in October, before making the Go Live Festival line-up a month later. In September, she also embarked on her first nationwide tour.
