Our new album "Big City Jungle" out March 28!
Long before there was talk about a wave of new Norwegian americana, before Beyoncé “made country cool”, and long before “nordicana” became a thing, there was Lucky Lips. They strutted the streets of Oslo in their boots, playing wherever people would have them. They performed at country festivals and bluegrass jams. They made it to the finals of Melodi Grand Prix, which is Norway's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. They won the European Championship in Bluegrass and played at Americanafest in Nashville, USA. They kept going, did their own thing and never stopped, even when country music was among the least trendy genres out there.
Lucky Lips was the band that kick-started Malin Pettersens musical career – her musical family. Now, the family is back together and are ready with their first release since 2016.
Fronted by Pettersen, who needs no further introduction, Lucky Lips have been a staple of Oslo’s country scene for over 15 years. They initially started as a bluegrass band but quickly blended elements of other genres such as old time, honkytonk, outlaw country and americana into their sound. Their music is defined by Pettersens powerful voice, tight and groovy rythms, playful banjo, and virtuose guitar playing.
The current lineup consists of Malin Pettersen, Erlend Skullestad Hølland, Even Reinsfelt Krogh, Pål Emil Storm-Berg and Stian Jørgen Sveen (SJ Sveen). In addition to their work with Lucky Lips, they’ve played and toured with artists like Amund Maarud, JP Harris, Robert Moses & the Harmony Crusaders, A-11, Katzenjammer, Robert Ellis, Brennen Leigh, Ila Auto, Winding Road, Fat Fred & the Possumhunters, Sweetheart, Lady Friend and many others.
Lucky Lips released their debut in 2010 and played a key role in sparking the “nordicana wave” that has been growing in Norway for over a decade. When Die With Your Boots On Records started as an underground club concept in 2012, it didn’t take long for the two to connect and do joint concerts. As DWYBO expanded into booking, Lucky Lips became a natural part of the roster. When DWYBO turned into a record label, it was clear that Lucky Lips had to be part of the family, and we’re thrilled to finally release their music!
