Born in Recife, Brazil, Sam Nóbrega is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and music producer with over 15 years of musical experience. As a composer, Sam has created and continues to create music for various media, including films, games, Netflix and HBO series, as well as dance and theater performances. As an instrumentalist, Sam has accompanied renowned Brazilian artists such as Angela Ro Ro, Lirinha, Fernando Catatau, Tulipa Ruiz, Isaar, Renata Arruda, Cida Moreira, and Gabi da Pele Preta, during a tribute concert to the celebrated artist Belchior at FIG 2017, produced by Juliano Holanda.
His passion for creating original music led him to join the project Araça Blu, a band that gained local prominence and even opened for the famous Brazilian musician Jorge Mautner in Belo Horizonte. In 2017, Sam began performing his first original music shows, including at the Misturada festival in Florianópolis, southern Brazil, and at well-known venues in his hometown of Recife. However, it was in 2019 that Sam Nóbrega released his debut single, "A Vida Vai e Volta," showcasing his musical prowess in a live video shot on a rooftop. Subsequent releases, such as "Ruas Desertas," an independent release during the pandemic, highlighted Sam's versatility.
In December 2023, Sam became the first Brazilian artist to sign with the British label Freestyle Records for his debut album, “Ponta de Dois Lados,” produced by Sam and P3dro Diniz. The album, set to be released on November 22 of this year in both digital and physical (vinyl) formats, is a rich sonic tapestry of Brazilian culture, blending traditional and popular elements with an indie and contemporary touch, creating an intriguing fusion of old and new sounds. Influences from northeastern and Brazilian culture, such as baião, maracatu, Ijexá, afoxé, caboclinho, samba, and iconic artists like João Donato, Marcos Valle, Alceu Valença, Milton Nascimento, Jorge Ben, Gilberto Gil, Novos Baianos, as well as movements like Manguebeat, Tropicália, and the Vanguarda Paulista, are perceptible throughout the album. After dedicating a long time (6 years) to completing his debut album, Sam is now preparing for its release, having already kicked off with pre-launch shows in Recife, Brazil, and Lisbon, Portugal.
