Inspired by rappers Jay Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Kendrick Lamar, and Lil’ Kim, Marie emerged in 2020 as an up and coming hip hop artist taking the rap game by storm. Raised by a teenage single mother in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, Marie experienced numerous lessons that life had to offer at an early age – specifically the internal and external battles stemming from an absent father and a teenage mother. Those experiences later transformed into words. By 14, Marie discovered an interest in writing poems and lyrics, which naturally led to rapping. Though she aspired to be a rapper as a youth, she excelled academically, obtaining a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Post grad, Marie released her debut EP, Chronicles, in March 2020. With the release of her debut EP, Marie gave listeners a vivid picture of the events that have transpired in her young life. With songs like Prayer and Shot Clock, she shows flashes of vulnerability and melody for listeners. As many considered her project a “brief biography” of her harsh realities, Marie gives a small glimpse into the beautiful joys and ambitions of her life with the release of her single, Takeover. Respected as her most popular record, Takeover provides a more fun and playful side, while also still serving true lyricism that has given Marie the respect she has today. She then returns with her autobiography feel with the release of her single, Truth. Immediately after the release of her single Truth, Marie released her long-awaited album, SYLLABLES OF LIFE. Though in the early stages of her career, Marie’s releases display a combination of brilliant wordplay, compelling narratives, and intensive vulnerability.
