Colombian songwriter, expeditionary and music producer who mixes tradition and modernity in his songs. His creating method: travel. His technique: miscegenation through the sound. His mission: to recreate the musical diversity of the American continent.
With more than 20 years of experience, he began his career in 2002 as a soloist. He has performed concerts in the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Spain, Andorra, Austria and in various capital cities and towns in Colombia. This itinerary has contributed throughout his career with his creative proposal. He has shared his singing with Marta Gómez, Andrés Cepeda, César López, Petrona Martínez, Pablo Flórez, Nahuel Pennisi, Aterciopelados, Carlos Varela, Nepentes, the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra and with the most important singer-songwriters of the new generation in Spanish (Castilian Language).
Winner of the Recognition of Music Record Productions – Colombian Ministry of Culture call with the album "Americanotl" in 2018. Winner of Creation Scholarships 2017, 2012, 2005 in the category "Urban and Alternative Music for Musicians with a Career" of the Medellín Mayor's Office. Winner for Colombia of the Ibero-American Popular Song Composition Contest – Ibermusicas, 2014. Honorable mention with his album "Americanito" in the National Music Award for Musical Productions of the Colombian Ministry of Culture, 2013. Winner of the 2013 Circulation Scholarship of the Medellín Mayor's Office. In 2012 he was selected as one of the 10 outstanding young people in Colombia in “the Cultural Achievements” category, a recognition granted by JCI Colombia. Recognition of the Council of Medellin for having been exalted as one of the outstanding young people of Antioquia, 2012. Special guest at the Independence Party Great National Concert, 2010. Singer-songwriter of the year 2009 by Revista Semana, Colombia. His album “Interior” was named as one of the 10 albums of the year by the magazine just mentioned; and shortlisted for the Latin Grammys in “the Best Recording Engineering and Singer-Songwriter” categories. In 2007 he was invited by Bancolombia for its “Bancaseguros y Ahorros” campaign in which 19 concerts were held throughout Colombia.
He has been a music producer for his own albums and for other artists, composer for documentaries, jury at various festivals, adviser in artistic direction for the Colombian Ministry of Culture, Bancolombia and other entities. He has been a television host, highlighting the musical series “Fonorama” on Canal U and “Festivaliando” on Señal Colombia.
He is currently working on the musical production of five studio albums: “America No Nation” [America No Nation], “La Balada Del Río” [The Ballad of the River], “Genética Popular” [Popular Genetics], and on the new albums by Delio and Argentine singer-songwriter Marcelino Azaguate. He is also working on the post-production of his first live album “La Peña Rodante - Live” [The Rolling Rock - Live]. He recently produced "El Siglo del Loro” [The Century of the Parrot] by Colombian singer-songwriter Pala, which has the participation of artists such as Javier Ruibal, Jorge Drexler, Pedro Guerra, Juanes, Rozalén, among others.
When Alejo García is not on tour, he spends the season at his own home, The Jaguara. On the outskirts of his hometown of Medellín, each month he presents, together with Argentine singer-songwriter Paula Neder and her tribe, a comprehensive artistic experience called “La Peña Rodante”. To date, 53 versions have been made with an always full capacity.
Alejo García, an artist of the constantly changing road, who sings to love, to landscape, to its inhabitants, to the dreams and searches of the towns and their connection with nature.
