Elisa Lizete Humbane Mourinho, stage name LIZHA JAMES, is a 30-year-old performing artist born on the 12th of December 1982 in Maputo, Mozambique.
The singer, songwriter and dancer who started singing in church started her career when she joined House Music group called Electro Base when she was only 14. However, her career was only launched when in the year 2000 when she released her debut album called “Watching You”.
In 2005 Lizha released her second album “Rainha do Ragga” meaning Queen of Reggae which was a huge success. For this album she was nominated for 6 categories for the Channel O Awards and walked away with the Best Female Video Award.
Her third album “Sentimentos de Mulher” meaning Feelings of Women had more versatility in sound with styles like Marrabenta and Ragga. In 2007 she was awarded for the Best Video in the RnB category for the Channel O Awards and Best Song for the Afro Music Channel Awards for “Nuna wa Mina” meaning My Husband. In 2008 she is again awarded for Best Female Video for the song “Nita Mukuma Kwini” at the Channel O Awards and 2009 she been nominated also. She has also been nominated for MTV Base Africa Awards that took place in Kenya and Nigeria, MMA in 2009 and 2010, as well as the Afro Music Channel Awards and many more and she is currently nominated in 2013 for the Channel O Awards.
Lizha has worked with artists like Loyiso (SA), Mandoza (SA), Kabelo (SA), Alcione (Brazil), Anselmo Ralph (Angola), Uhuru (SA) and many more. She recorded her version of Jimmy Dludlu´s song “Totte” for the same album “Sentimentos de Mulher”.
Lizha has released her latest album in September 2013 called “Sente O Meu Amor’’ only in Mozambique. She will release her first “Best Of” album called ‘’Feel My Love’’ in South Africa through Universal Music, which she already has a few singles out and a videos for the songs “Quem te Mandou featuring Uhuru’’ and “Mama”. This song is already making waves all over Africa.
From 2007 James started doing charity work and in 2009 was nominated as the Embassador for the Fight Against Poverty for the “Southern African Trust”.
Lizha James is definitely recognized as an African Diva in Africa´s music scene but she strives to go global and strive.
