Singer-Songwriter HEBE returns with the stunning, emotive new single ‘Drink On My Own’. Taken from the new 5 track EP, part 1 of the upcoming album ‘Release Resolution’ a stunning collection of intricate alternative-folk singer-writing, combining personal lyrics with beautiful musical ideas.
The new single ‘Drink On My Own’ showcases some of HEBE’s most affecting and personal work. Organic, warming and gentle, the track opens with a finger picked acoustic guitar under Hebe’s delicate, emotive lead vocal. As the track builds, introducing layers of stunning harmonies and layers of strings, the track takes on an expansive depth, emphasizing the melancholic, painfully honest nature of the lyricism.
Speaking on the single Hebe shares: “Drink on My Own is about how being afraid is accompanied by feelings of apparent shame and weakness. Rather than looking for cloudy metaphors I decided to describe quite literally how these negative feelings impact an average day in my life. I created a very gentle, almost lullaby sound for it, to make the lyrics less heavy.”
Following a trio of increasingly accomplished EP’s released between 2015 and 2020, HEBE introduced herself to the world, fluently adventuring new styles and reaching listeners around the globe. Her intimate live performance of ‘Cards On The Table’ for UK Mahogany Sessions in 2020, next to the likes of Rhye, Birdy and Billie Eilish as well as the placement of latest single ‘Afraid of Being Hurt’ in US TV Series ‘Couples Therapy’ as theme song for their final episode, catapulted her towards building the widespread acclaim and growing fanbase that she possesses today.
Speaking about the upcoming album as a whole, HEBE shares: “Part 1 of my upcoming album opens with ‘Wait For Daylight’, a song about the night and the start of an anxious, dark phase. The album ends with Lifted The Weight, a song that was written in the early mornings in my home in Amsterdam after lying awake for several hours. I decided to get up and play a bit on my piano. While the sun was slowly rising, I experienced a feeling of power and self sustainability that was so strong and made me write Lifted the Weight. A song about a first glimmer of light.
As a young girl I felt life was pretty frightening and for a large part I am still that same girl. Through songwriting and singing I can express myself and feel less alone. This album has been created in two years, where I have dealt with anxiety more than ever, but also learned a lot about myself and life. In a time where the world is in crisis - a heavy mixture of chaos, unjustness, sadness - it is very comforting to listen to and exchange, share and create stories.”
Having garnered upwards of a million streams on Spotify and support from international tastemakers including Impose Magazine, Noctis Magazine, Earmilk, Vice and Music Week. The international approval culminated in HEBE performing at the prestigious Metropolis Studios and at London’s renowned Camden Assembly. Her music has received UK airplay from the likes of Hoxton Radio, Fubar Radio and Reprezent Radio, whilst back in her own country HEBE has performed on national TV ‘Vrije Geluiden’ and radio shows such as Muziekcafe, 3voor12 and Radio1.
