Few reggae artists in France can claim to have as many real hits in their discography as Yaniss Odua !
«La Caraïbe», «Rouge Jaune Vert», «Chalawa» (combining between them more than 100 million views on Youtube) are all big tunes that the crowd chants in chorus during his shows, always generous and dynamic.
In nearly 30 years of career (Yaniss started at the age of 10 alongside his cousin Daddy Harry in Martinique), Yaniss Odua has created a unique bond with the French public. Whether on his Caribbean lands, in France or the rest of the territories where he was able to shoot, the Martinican artist marks with an unfeigned authenticity, texts that speak to everyone, placed on musical productions that are always neat, combining the roots of Reggae with modern sounds.
And for a good reason, he constantly surrounds himself with the best talents of the genre, such as the legendary producer Clive Hunt in Jamaica (Jimmy Cliff, Alpha Blondy, Rolling Stones, Grace Jones, Khaled, etc.), but also young French sound magicians like Kahifa or Ayema.
Always on the lookout for new encounters, experiences and eager to share his vibrations with artists with the same values, we have seen him collaborate with the greatest international artists including Ky-Mani Marley, Tiken Jah Fakoly or Keny Arkana.
From «Yon Pa Yon» (2002) to «Nouvelle Donne» (2017), via «Ideal Moment» (2013), and all the albums and collaborative projects in which he participated, Yaniss Odua keeps smiling despite the vagaries of life. As a conscious and committed artist, he remains positive by wishing to overcome, while denouncing them, the injustices he encounters or has suffered.
His last album «Stay High» is no exception to the rule. With this opus, Yaniss takes a turn illustrated by a modern and inspired Reggae. Danakil, Dub Inc, Kalash or even Flavia Coelho join their voices and music on compelling tracks. In a style described as «Futu’Roots», where the instrumentals are sublimated by texts as rich as they are touching, Yaniss reveals himself in an intimate way, while wanting to be a transmitter of messages, builder of bridges between humans, cultures and musical genres.
A piece of art that will mark its time !
